
Hailu Dadi (PhD)
Dr. Hailu Dadi served several years in Ethiopian agricultural research system as a scientist, as a research center director and co-coordinator of national and international research projects. He earned a PhD in animal genetics and breeding from Tokyo University of Agriculture in 2009. His research work was focused on genetic structure and diversity analysis using high density SNPs and microsatellite markers. He moved to South Korea in 2011, becoming postdoctoral research scientist at Chungbuk National University, and then promoted to assistant professor of animal genomics in the department of Animal Biotechnology at Konkuk University, South Korea. His research work was focused on population genetics, genes molecular polymorphisms, their functions and mode of actions. In 2015, he joined Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, and serve in biotechnology department to date.
Currently, he is working for Bio and Emerging Technology Institute as a Deputy Director General. He played a leading role in the establishment of Ethiopian Biotechnology Institute which was renamed as Bio and Emerging Technology Institute. His research interest includes application of genomic tools in African livestock sustainable development and conservation and functional genes characterization in livestock improvement programs. His research has been reported in numerous peer-reviewed journals and published several scientific publications. He has been awarded a gold medal by the government of Ethiopia and won several competitive grants from national and international funding organizations.
